Early Basketball Preview: Florida

Right, because Floridians know all about inclement weather.

Next in this hard-hitting feature is a familiar foe, as in, they pounded us last year.

School: Florida Gators

Location: Gainesville, Florida

Conference: SEC

Undergrad Enrollment: 32,776

2012-13 record: 29-8

Top returning players: Senior guard Scottie Wilbekin and senior center Patric Young both cracked the preseason All-SEC second team. Wilbekin averaged 9.1 points a game last season and led the team with 174 assists. Young averaged 10.1 points a game and led the team with 232 rebounds.

Who’d win in a mascot fight?: Gator. Definitely the gator. I’m thinking this section could turn a little more morbid than I had originally anticipated…

One interesting major: Bachelor of Arts in Dance. Not to be confused with Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance.

One fact to help you win your local trivia night: Two truths and a lie.

Coolest name: Either Damontre Harris or Wilbekin. Scottie is just a great basketball name.

Prediction: This is the toughest non-conference game on the schedule and it’s right out of the gate. I don’t think Bo will have the team gelling quite yet and Florida sweeps the home and home started last year. The Badgers at least make it interesting since it’s in Madison and keep it within ten.
