Wrestling: UW Drops First Dual of Season


In its first match of the season as a ranked team, the UW wrestling team dropped a dual meet to Old Dominion by a count of 19-12 on Friday night in Norfolk, Va.

A pair of wins in the first two matches of the night put the Monarchs up 6-0 heading to 141 pounds where Tyler Graff the Badgers on the board with an 8-4 win over Justin LaValle in a battle of two ranked wrestlers.

Old Dominion scooped up the next two matches to jump out to a 13-3 advantage before Frank Cousins picked up a 4-1 win at 165 pounds.

The Monarchs got wins at 164 and 174 to seal the match. But, Wisconsin finished strong. Jackson Hein was an 8-3 winner at 197 and Connor Medbery tallied an 11-7 victory at heavyweight in his first match as a Badger.

Wisconsin (1-1) is back in action on Sunday when they tangle with No. 12 Virginia Tech at 1 p.m.
